Junior School
Our Junior School students have regular interactions with our Middle and Senior School captains and student leader role models. In addition, Year 4 students are chosen by both peers and staff, to serve as Junior School captains and Prefects. These roles provides excellent leadership development and growth.
All Year 4 students have the responsibility of helping and caring for a kindergarten buddy in their final year in Junior School. This role involves helping our kindergarten students to feel confident and comfortable in ‘big school’, watching out for them at break times and being positive role models to them.
All students have numerous opportunities during their scholastic year to take on leadership roles in class, assemblies, chapel and the many activities that are available to them here at St Philip’s Christian College Port Stephens.
Middle School
Students are able to apply to become Middle School Captain or Vice Captain in Year Eight. Nominated students undergo an interview process and if successful go through to a ‘speeches round’ and are subsequently voted in by their peers. Captains perform a variety of roles, from regularly hosting Middle School assemblies to attending ANZAC Day marches. Two House Captains are also chosen for each sporting house. Leadership opportunities are also available in sporting teams and Cru Group (Christian Crusaders).
Senior School
Leadership opportunities are developed through the positions of School Captains, Vice Captains, House Captains, Prefects and Student Representative Council (SRC). With Assemblies and Chapels almost completely student led. There are also a plethora of other leadership opportunities in Sport, Music, Drama, Public Speaking, Debating and competition teams. Our School’s values encourage responsibility towards the environment, respect for our uniform, acceptance of others and tolerance of difference. It is our aim to develop in the young people who graduate from our school an attitude of Christ first, service to one another, striving for excellence, doing what is right and building community.
