St Philip’s Christian College Newcastle has a proud history of supporting our talented and elite athletes in achieving remarkable sporting accomplishments through regional, state, national and international school and non-school pathways and competitions. We are proud of our many alumni who have gone on to become elite athletes, competing at the highest level of professional sport, including the Olympics and Paralympics. The College also aims to consistently be competitive in a wide range of representative sporting competitions, with many of our sporting students and teams successfully winning trophies and medals at all levels of competition.
There are many opportunities for students to represent the College in a wide range of sporting teams, who will participate in various competitions such as HRIS Gala Days, Knockout Competitions or Development Days. Sports which the College may offer include Aerobics, Aussie Rules, Basketball, Cricket, Futsal, Football, Netball, Oz Tag, Rugby League/Union, Snow Sports, Surfing, Tennis, Touch Football and Volleyball.
The College runs three sporting carnivals each year for Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Students participate and represent their College House: Hunter, Macquarie, Paterson or Williams, with a Champion House being awarded. Students compete to further represent the College at the HRIS regional carnival, and then progress to state level competition at AICES (Secondary only), NSW CIS and NSW All Schools Carnivals.
Beyond SPCC sporting teams, HRIS, AICES and NSWCIS sporting associations provide a wide range of representative sporting pathways and opportunities for high performing and elite athletes. Many of these are pathway sports, with opportunities to progress through to state and national level representation. Representative sports which may be offered at each association level include: Aussie Rules, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Diving, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Football, Sailing, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Triathlon, Touch Football, Volleyball and Water Polo.
