Each year, Year 11 students have the opportunity to apply to be involved an incredible program that is run by Gosford RSL called Max Potential. In the program each student is given their own designated coach/mentor from the community and with their support and direction, have the opportunity to bring an idea or passion to life. This year Elise Middlemiss and Zac Scoppetta represented SPCC Gosford and participated in the program which they both found highly rewarding and life changing.
On the 22nd of August, Zac and Elise showcased a Community Service Pitch they had been working on for the past three months. This pitch involved working with the community to discover a problem that needed solving. In this showcase, Elise displayed her program, which worked to prevent bullying and increase attendance among young children and provide a supportive environment for everyone.
In addition, Zac's project demonstrated how he increased reading rates and worked towards creating a reading-loving culture within the community. Through that process, Elise's and Zac's projects were designed and piloted their projects to showcase their commitment to helping the community and representing the school well.
Testimony from Elise on the experience of Max Potential.
“When I first heard about Max Potential, I was uncertain about what to expect, but after hearing various testimonials, I decided to take a chance and applied. Walking into the first workshop, I was filled with nervousness, but meeting my mentor immediately brought a sense of calm and reassurance.
Reflecting on my experience, joining Max Potential was one of the best decisions I could have made at that time.
The program taught me several key principles that have profoundly impacted my life. I learned the importance of setting clear, actionable goals and staying committed to them, embracing a mindset of continuous improvement, and understanding the value of resilience and adaptability. These principles not only boosted my self-confidence and self-discipline but also reshaped how I approach challenges and opportunities, leading to more purposeful and effective personal and professional growth.”
