We were blessed to welcome back another groups of students, from Aizumi Junior High in Tokushima, Japan to the college.
This is now our second year, and we are building a lovely friendship with this school. It is remarkable to see how quickly the students from Japan and their SPCC buddies became so closely connected and the mutual joy that they shared as they experienced each other’s culture.
The students from Aizumi had the opportunity to visit a few classes including Year 5 & Year 11 Society & Culture to talk about life in Japan and to share the differences between Japanese schools and Australian Schools. They were very surprised that our students didn’t stay for 15-30 minutes after school each day to clean the school including the bathrooms and toilets, which is normal practice in Japan, and starts when students are in Kindy.
Some of the students said that their favourite subject was Science and so they absolutely loved the Science Fair that was taking place in the hall on Thursday. They were amazed at the opportunities that our students enjoyed and were thankful to participate where possible. On the final day we shared food, including Vegemite, ate pizza and we learnt the traditional Awa Dance which is famous in the Tokushima Prefecture. It was an enriching experience for all involved and we look forward to hopefully hosting again next year.
A big thanks to all of those in our SPCC community who made them feel welcome & particularly to the host families and the Year 10 buddies who did an incredible job looking after them and helping them to enjoy their time in Australia. The staff from Aizumi Junior High expressed his heart felt gratitude saying that they were made to feel very warmly welcomed and greatly appreciated the kindness they were shown by our entire community.
