Here at St Philip's Christian College Gosford we offer a diverse sports program designed for students from Kindergarten to Year Twelve. We believe in nurturing the whole person, which includes physical fitness and skill development through sports.
Junior School
Students in the Junior School play sport and have additional movement breaks as part of the normal school day on two days per week. Our College offers After School Sport Training targeted at Junior School students. These are tailored programs such as Athletics, Basketball, Netball and Chess.
Middle and Senior School
In Middle and Senior Schools students engage in sport within the school curriculum from specialised Personal Development, Health and Physical Education teachers. As part of timetabled lessons, Stage 4 and Stage 5 participate in off-site sport opportunities. Each term, we offer a variety of sport options including Surfing, Ninja Warrior, Wheelchair Basketball, and Flip Out.
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award
For Years Nine and above, our College is involved in The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award (or 'The Duke of Ed'). This is an exciting international youth development program. Students between the ages of 14 and 18 can take part in the program and the level starts at Bronze and progresses to Silver, then to Gold. Requirements for the program is to complete hours of volunteer work, hours towards a selected sport, and hours of a chosen skill. The program also involves two expeditions that may include hiking, canoeing, horse riding and sailing. Students have autonomy choose your own activities and set their own personal goals. The program is designed to create resilient, problem solving and determined students who learn life long skills.
Pathway Opportunities
St Philip's Christian College Gosford participates in Primary and Secondary Sports Carnivals (Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics) and Gala Days with Hunter Region Independent Schools (HRIS), Association of Independent Co-educational Schools State (AICES), Combined Independent Schools (CIS), NSW All Schools and All Schools Nationals.
We believe in a whole of life approach to education. This means giving our students an opportunity to learn through experience that will help shape their present and future circumstances. Some of these experiences occur in the classroom, while a number are experienced by taking students offsite. In 1 Peter 4:10 we are encouraged to "use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."
